Top 10 Movies Doris Day

being born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1922 sought Doris Day as a professional dancer but a car accident forced her to rethink her career, as a part of its youth spent recovering in a wheelchair. Among the songs on the radio instead, it was not until 1948, the Doris in her first movie as Miss Georgia Garrett made in "It's Magic" (originally called "Romance on the High Seas" known). And so began her film career, which span 20 years and 39 films before the big screen away and went tothe small screen with their TV show "The Doris Day Show" which ran from 1968 - 1973.

was often called the "eternal virgin" thanks mainly to a series of films where the subject of sex was taboo, Day was able to provide in fact a very accomplished actress comedy, romance and serious drama, and of course, could sing and dance. A seriously well-rounded star, top box office star for the year 1963, and is often regarded as an all-time top female box officeStar.

During her career she played against some of the great stars of Hollywood like Gordon MacRae, David Niven, Clark Gable, Kirk Douglas, James Stewart, Gig Young, Howard Keel, James Garner, Jack Lemmon, and of course Rock Husdon the trio of films that will be shared met some of her most popular are.

While it is fair to say that some of Doris Day's films were remarkably similar with a common thread of being either a career-minded young woman or a man she cheated worked welland made some wonderful films made for the memorable rule by at least a music scene presents wonderful singing Day's voice.

From out of her 39 films, it is actually quite difficult to narrow it to only 10, but here's my personal choice for the "Top 10 Doris Day movies."

# 10 Teacher's Pet (1958)

The first film to see what has become a very familiar story plays like a career-minded woman Doris Day cheated by a man pretending to be someone else. Here we see Doris Day play Erica Stone teaches journalism that led up to the end of James Gannon (Clark Gable), a little town, which will initially be a newspaper editor Stone a piece of his soul, but ultimately falls for her tricked. The problem is, he pretends to be someone else when they meet and you know it cause problems if disclosed his true identity.

Although the "Teacher's Pet" would be the first of these romantic comedies, which was very similar storylines presented strikingfor the fact that Doris Day played things straight, while still providing that charming and endearing performance that would fill many of these romantic comedies. Instead, we had Clark Gable provides the comedy as James Gannon with a wonderful selection of facial move makes the "Teacher's Pet," a hugely enjoyable movie.

# 9 Young Man with a Horn (1950)

In all fairness, "Young Man with a Horn" or "Young Man of Music", as it is called, is not really a film by Doris Dayinstead of a Kirk Douglas movie with Doris Day in a supporting role. But the story of Rick Martin (Kirk Douglas) who is learning to play the trumpet Hazzard kind of the legendary musician and continues musicians a troubled star is a brilliant film full of drama, emotion and music, and a little comedy.

It is a brilliant performance from Kirk Douglas in the lead role, but Doris Day is just as well in the role of the lesser singer Jo Jordan, who always ends up a closeFriend Rick. Although she is only 4 songs in the film gets all nicely done and sing these songs in between each day shows what a talented actress, so of course in every scene.

# 8 It happened to Jane (1959)

In the same year that Doris Day was her first film with Rock Hudson to other romantic comedy, this time with Jack Lemmon and Ernie Kovacs. In "It Happened Jane Doris Jane Osgood is playing a career-minded mother,Breeds and sells lobster, which finds the assumption of power by Harry Foster Malone (Ernie Kovacs) the holder of a railway line they cost a lot of money in dead lobsters. With the help of her best friend, lawyer George Denham (Jack Lemmon), they can in any battles Malone but they can despite their efforts things go well, in more ways than one.

had largely with the exception of the "Teacher's Pet" from "It Happened Jane" the majority of romantic films Doris Day'slargely musical. But here we had day shows their ability in a more straightforward romantic comedy with barely a musical scene in sight, except for a heavily made one with "Be Prepared". What makes this film feature in my "Top 10 Doris Day films," is the combination of Doris Day and Jack Lemmon, the lights between them, the screen with a perfect amount of comedy.

# 7 The Thrill of It All (1963)

"The Thrill of It All" would be the first of Doris Dayand James Garner's 2 films together again and see Doris Day in a familiar role of a house to take a wife and mother. During a dinner party Beverly Boyer (Doris Day), wife of obstetricians Gerald (James Garner), spoiled the hosts with a story about how they are used "Happy Soap" to wash their children's hair because they are their hosts, the owner happens "Happy Soap." Before she knows Beverly make the new face of advertising "Happy Soap", the billboards and being wined and dined at largesocials. All of this ends up annoying Gerald, who sees his wife hardly caused a rift in their happy marriage.

Although their second film together: "In Move, Darling" would end up with a bigger box-office success, I prefer "The Thrill of It All" together by Doris Day and James Garner's 2 films. It is more likely for most routine with Doris Day play that is beautiful and slightly mad housewife big, dark and beautiful husband James Garner, but it is full of memorable and funny scenes. TheFake posing for the billboard and the swimming pool full of foam only two of many innocent amusing moments in a film are full of them.

# 6 On Moonlight Bay (1951)

In its 20 years of film career, and despite a number of films that have the same kind of action will be used only Doris Day, made a sequel, "By the Light of the Silvery Moon" was. The predecessor was the beautiful track "On Moonlight Bay", the tag on the role of Marjie Winfield to take a tomboy sawwho falls for Bill Sherman (Gordon MacRae). The problem is that Bill has some unorthodox views on marriage and relationships and also a few other things that end up annoying Marjie father George.

Although "On Moonlight Bay" has a history that has, in fact, there are a few storylines, it is very much a musical with many musical moments with either of the wonderful Doris Day or the equally wonderful Gordon MacRae and often together. But it's the way everything comes together to create athoroughly enjoyable and charming film, completely innocent and a lot of fun.

# 5 Pajama Game (1957)

This would be the last of the Doris Day's films were a musical and drama to the second, but it's surprisingly fun. Located in the Sleeptite pajama factory Doris plays Babe Williams, a trade union representative, is against new superintendent Sid Sorokin coming (John Raitt), head over heels in they will start out business and pleasure, thingsrather chaotic since Babe's colleagues that an increase.

"The Pajama Game" his roots as a Broadway musical and film making, the work is that it feels like you're watching a musical. With many of the Broadway cast back the same roles for the film and with a vivid styling that is truly comes to life it is a very entertaining movie. And of course it features Doris Day to her feisty best when she plays against John Raitt while providing amplecheerful musical numbers.

# 4 Love Me or Leave Me (1955)

During her career, Doris Day performed a few films based or inspired by real people, in "Love Me or Leave Me" she stars as Ruth Etting in a fictional account of the jazz singer's life. After she goes from Chicago hood Marty Snyder (James Cagney) Ruth by a would-be singer a big star, but Snyder control of their lives was presented to the public image of Ruth spotted her completely differentunhappy private.

What does Doris Day performance in "Love Me or Leave Me" is as brilliant in hindsight of information, the Doris Day revealed in her autobiography. Day himself suffered an unhappy marriage to Martin Melcher, which basically controls her life and see many of which almost mirrors what you are in "Love Me or Leave Me". As such there is a real sense of pain and emotions in many of the scenes in the movie where Snyder adds his anger and control of Ruth. Increase ofOf course, a film is about a singer, we get a lot of brilliant musical moments with interpretations of "Ten Cents a Dance" and "I'll Never Stop Loving You".

# 3 of the Silvery Moon (1953) The light

As already mentioned, "By the Light of the Silvery Moon" is the equally beautiful title sequel to "On Moonlight Bay" and follows a very similar story with Marjie Winfield still with relationship problems with Bill, she agreed to marry before hePosition in the war versa not quite ready, down the aisle. And this is not the only problem as the other member of the Winfield budget with a few questions.

For many, has failed "By the Light of the Silvery Moon" on Moonlight Bay "and basically just rehashes the whole story, which does in all fairness it. But for me it has much more charm, especially with the winter setting and an unforgettable ending on the frozen pond with a wonderful family sing-a-long. It also helps that Dayis love at its sweetest best comfortably as Marjie for the eyes and easy.

# 2 Pillow Talk (1959)

It may be surprising, but some are Doris Day and Rock Hudson, only the three films together, although it often feels like more because Day was more like all movies with pretty much the same stars. Her first film together was "Pillow Talk" Day saw player Jan Morrow, a party phone line with Brad Allen (Rock Hudson) share much of their angerwhen he calls the line with pigs in and out of different women. But if Allen is found in the society of tomorrow, he is a bit of fun pretending, another Texan named Rex Stetson town, which turns out as a bit of fun in more than they are really made for each other.

As mentioned Doris Day from several similar films and here we see a man pretending to be someone else duped. It is the best version of this kind of story, thanks to the amazingChemistry between Doris Day and Rock Hudson makes it extremely funny and very romantic, which is pretty funny in an ironic way, thanks to certain revelations about the two stars. And had cheated despite the term of the day by another man has already done is to remind deliver the one most people with their crazy day, pull face comedy to the maximum, while Hudson charms his way through each scene.

# 1 Calamity Jane (1953)

And finally, my number one Doris Daybe a film on my list of "Top 10 Doris Day films," and it has the award-winning "Calamity Jane". In "Calamity Jane" Doris Day stars as Jane a lively Indian tracker in the town of Deadwood, which may boast a little too much. If the owner of the local saloon is desperate to get someone to attend to, they can offer Jane again celebrated stage actor from Chicago Adelaid Adams bring to their small stage. But with Chicago Jane error Adelaid maid Kate for the great titleStern turned and held her. Well, it all comes out that Jane does not bring back Adelaid but you and Kate are friends leave to get a little unexpected rivalry in the romantic department.

From the first scene with the animated "The Deadwood Stage (Whip-Crack-Away)" to the credits, "Calamity Jane" is a thoroughly classical music filled musical of big song and dance numbers, which makes the action almost unimportant Despite not so bad. But why "Calamity Jane" ismy number 1 film is because it is all of wonderful talents of Doris Day's showcases of dance, singing, comedy and a touch of drama and next to solid performances by Howard Keel, Allyn Ann McLerie and Philip Carey is not a single dull moment in his entire length.
